Circus Warehouse – “Aerial Text Experiments”

Susan Brennan - Circus WarehouseAerialist, Maia Ramnath performing my poem “Kite.”

Activist/poet Michael Rothenberg contacted me to participate in 2011 “100,000 Poets for Change.” On September 24 over 600 events world wide, poets held events to sound out a voice for change. I ended up at the astonishing Circus Warehouse in LIC, collaborating with the astonishing Suzi Winson to wed aerialists with text. Aerialists Carey Hackett and Maia Ramnath choreographed my poems on silks as a piece of a show that was a poetic, moving, riveting evening of daring words and physical wonders. Check out Circus Warehouse – hell, go there! You’ll get a close-up dose of circus arts that’ll make you want to run away with them!!

maia-the-foolAerial Text Experiements 2016 was a smashing success!  “The Fool” is an aerial-poetry collaboration between aerialists Maia Ramnath and Megan Cattau, poet Susan Brennan, and projectionist Crystal Thompson, aka Satelitte.  It was presented at Circus Warehouse‘s 6th Annual Aerial-Text Experiments as part of 100 Thousand Poets for Change world-wide poetry reading to promote social change.  “The Fool” was performed to Terry Riley‘s mind bending overdub orgy “A Rainbow in Curved Air” & poem “The Fool” recorded by Susan Brennan, audio design by Ed Zeizel.  It draws on inspiration from the tarot card, The Fool.  The video is sideways – well, maybe The Fool had something to do with that…
